Nationwide has opened a space in The Post Building, Holborn, London. Built to attract the talent of the future, the four floors provide an innovative, human-centric and tech-led space with a community feel.

The project had its challenges due to the industrial style of the building which made acoustic levels difficult to manage. In addition, with the project running throughout COVID-19 restrictions all project teams had to work closely with the client and other contractors to be agile and reduce the effect of necessary delays whilst maintaining staff safety and wellbeing.

Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. Founded back in 1846 it has 15 million customers and 17,000 employees.

The brief was to deliver a dramatic space focused on collaboration and innovation which incorporated the latest AV and UC technologies in order to enable their new way of working ready to attract a new technical team to support their digital transformation.

The space needed to be flexible enough for a range or working styles, inclusive and supportive of staff wellbeing, and very importantly as future-proof as possible. Their vision was that it needed to be a clever blend of technology, user experience and aesthetics but very importantly deliver on sustainability, inclusivity, adaptability, comfort and compliance.

There is an impressive Town Hall conference area for large events, collaboration spaces, breakout areas, booths and quiet spaces for people to work in the way that suits them and according to the core Nationwide principles of inclusivity and wellbeing. Further boardrooms, offices and meeting rooms allow for private video conferencing and presentations to take place away from communal areas.

The AV design brief was written by MiX Consultancy in consultation with MCM Architecture.
