The Marshall Building is the latest and one of the most significant projects for the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in recent years.

Designed as a structure of concrete the building creatively addresses the need to transfer from smaller spans at the upper levels down to increasing spans at ground level using ‘tree like’ columns and branches. The nine storey building features a variety of lecture theatres and informal study spaces, rehearsal facilities, a grand public space on the ground floor and a basement sports hall, squash courts and gym.

This project is proAV’s 3rd large scale AV deployment within a construction environment for LSE, with previous projects including the Centre Building which was completed in 2019.

The Marshall Building has been designed by RIBA Stirling Prize winners Grafton Architects who won the job in conjunction with engineering firm AKT II as part of an international architectural competition. The flagship building comprises ten upper floors and two basement levels housing a variety of academic departments as well as new teaching and sports facilities for the Students’ Union.

Occupying a central position within the LSE campus it has three separate entrances leading into a huge Great Hall, an open plan space for meeting and socialising. The interior is a dramatic visual in sustainable concrete with a sweeping staircase leading to two floors of varied teaching spaces.

proAV were engaged by LSE to review and redesign the AV equipment provision for all the teaching rooms, the Great Hall, further meeting rooms, the Rehearsal Studio and music rooms to include digital signage options and an assisted hearing system.
