Vodafone UK is headquartered in Newbury and set in landscaped parkland where seven office buildings are each spread over three, open-plan floors built around a central atrium. The company employs more than 3,000 people. At the heart of the Vodafone philosophy is a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for its business customers and, with the creation of its Customer Experience Centre, it has taken the concept of customer experience and interactive customer service to a new level.

The project brief

proAV was commissioned to install wide-ranging AV technologies across the Vodafone Customer Experience Centre, a building that has been completely refurbished in a stunning contemporary style. A further integrated AV solution was installed simultaneously at the Vodafone Network Operation Centre on the same site.

To complement this remarkable interior scheme and highly functional workspace, proAV designed an innovative audio visual scheme that incorporates some of the world's most ingenious AV technologies. The AV solution formed part of the unique interior design scheme that extends throughout the ground floor and is used to deliver a groundbreaking interactive experience for Vodafone's business customers. 

A wide range of audio visual facilities were incorporated into this world class solution, including an HD video conferencing system and a state-of-the-art digital signage system with capability to distribute unique content to each location on the network from a single PC. Controls include wireless access points, a wireless touchpanel and iPads.

The AV solution formed part of the unique interior design scheme that extends throughout the ground floor and is used to deliver a groundbreaking interactive experience for Vodafone's business customers.

The industry’s leading audio visual systems were incorporated into this exciting project, with facilities installed across various zones and meeting areas, including the following:

  • Large Format Displays (LFDs) with enhanced DNIe pro colour and power saving functionality
  • LCD ultra thin bezel digital displays
  • HD video conferencing system with HD camera, presenter software, microphones, mixer and DSP processor
  • Interactive SMARTboards and ultra short throw projectors
  • Fibre optic routing for input sources
  • Professional audio system including recessed speakers and subwoofers
  • Wireless control system with touchpanels, processed and high powered RF gateway
  • Central source and distribution hub with interactive PCS, fibre optic extenders, Sky decoder, digital matrix router, DSP audio processing mainframes, power amplifiers and media management system

A client-focussed support service

proAV provides a specialist FM support service to Vodafone across the UK. We originally deployed onsite technicians to the organisation's HQ in Newbury to support initial technology deployments in 2002 with an underpinning maintenance agreement. In 2006 the team was expanded to 10 technicians and support was extended to include Vodafone's Paddington and Mayfair sites in the form of a white-glove service for senior executives.

In 2012 Vodafone brought all FM services under the management of a third party facilities management organisation; proAV's current service contract now supports 13 sites across the UK.

In summary:

The projects to equip the Vodafone Customer Experience Centre and the Vodafone Network Operation Centre with professional, integrated AV systems were completed simultaneously and delivered on time, within budget and according to the client's exacting specification. Today, we continue to support this global communications giant with a team of 10 proAV field engineers who support these audio visual systems as part of a professional managed service with a 24-hour rapid response capability.
