The Biltmore Mayfair opens as LXR Hotels & Resorts first UK property, following an agreement between Hilton (NYSE: HLT) and Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc (LSE: MLC). The luxury hotel, situated on a super prime location in the heart of Mayfair on Grosvenor Square, has opened for business since September 2019, marking the new brand’s European debut.
The hotel has undergone a multi-million-pound redevelopment and it is now offering 257 luxuriously appointed guest rooms, many with views over Grosvenor Square, as well as 51 highly curated and beautifully designed suites, which will reflect the property’s origin as a sophisticated and elegant London private residence.
The highest specification determined and following a comprehensive tender process, proAV was commissioned by specialist AV consultant, Blend and the Millennium team, to deliver an extensive integrated audio-visual scheme for key areas of the hotel that would enhance the guest experience.
proAV’s AV solution was focussed on a vast, 5380sq.ft. ballroom with a 700-guest capacity, a series of meeting rooms, including a substantial divisible meeting space alongside induction loop provision, room booking solution and hotel-wide background music system.
An extensive network of Samsung screens formed the basis of the display arrangement, Amina Edge series invisible loudspeakers incorporating Audinate’s Dante intuitive user interface channelled the background music system while Bluefin BrightSign frameless touchscreens were used to drive the hotel’s room booking system.
Critical to the success of the project was the harmonisation of AV technologies within the prestigious hotel environment and its signature interior architectural scheme.
The strict programme timetable presented several challenges – chiefly to maintain a coordinated approach with other associated trades who were subject to similar constraints. Despite this pressure, proAV’s project management team ensured all aspects of the AV delivery were seamless, timely and without complications.
The architecture of the building and its internal design features also proved challenging; the equipment specification incorporated many state-of-the-art products that produced a stylish juxtaposition with the interior, but which called for careful installation. The Amina Edge 3 invisible speakers that drive the scheme’s background music system were a case in point – the difficulty was overcome with a three-stage installation process to sequence each speaker precisely and without excess plaster that would undermine their effect or sound. The result produced a contemporary, yet very inconspicuous speaker arrangement that delivered incredible audio.
The scheme for the Biltmore Mayfair represented a building-wide scheme that was designed to enhance the hotel’s guest experience and deliver a first-class service to those visiting it – in particular, its ballroom and business spaces.
proAV integrated a wireless presentation platform from Barco and utilised Crestron’s powerful NVX 350 AV over IP solution to deliver content to Samsung QM-F series 4K UHD displays. Notably, the Manhattan meeting room, which can be reconfigured into three smaller meeting rooms exploited the flexibility of proAV’s solution with display, audio and wireless conferencing that is easily transformed to suit each designated audience. Bluefin with BrightSign Built-In HD screens and Crestron control were utilised throughout to provide high performance business facilities.
