Pioneering Education Environment
Founded in 1895 for the ‘betterment of society’, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the world’s foremost social science universities, ranking second international for its Social Science and Management subjects. Some 12,000 students (2017-18) come from over 148 countries to study in LSE’s 23 academic departments and 22 research centres.
proAV has enjoyed a long and rewarding partnership with LSE having completed a number of exciting integrated AV projects in recent years, including an all-embracing AV scheme that was rolled out across the New Academic Building. When LSE made the decision to upgrade the audio visual systems in a range of teaching areas, proAV was commissioned to design and build a raft of pioneering technologies that would transform some of its most prominent learning spaces.
proAV was appointed by LSE to deliver wide-ranging AV technologies in major areas across the LSE campus. The campus is arranged over just a few streets around Lincoln’s Inn Field in central London, and includes the Sheikh Zayed Theatre in the New Academic Building, the Old Theatre in the Old Building, the Hong Kong Theatre, Tower Building classrooms and the Tower Rooms.
The project to upgrade the legacy systems was to answer the call for increasingly sophisticated AV systems architecture that would enhance LSE’s student experience and ensure it would maintain its position as one of the most dynamic universities in the world.
"All of these integration projects were completed with a high degree of success. In particular proAV's rack build is the best in the business and also we were more than happy with the quality of the installation engineers who approached the project with an appropriate level of flexibility yet attention to detail."

Assistant Director for Technology Operations, LSE
The project to equip the London School of Economics and Political Science was completed in accordance with the time constraints set and within budget and has resulted in a number of benefits for the client.
The project provided LSE with a powerful, integrated audio visual solution that ensures LSE has set itself apart with a pioneering educational environment and all the technological resources to deliver a dynamic teaching experience to LSE students that will accommodate forthcoming technological advances and evolving needs. The powerful displays with state-of-the-art HD projection creates a collaborative and interactive presentation and learning environment across the key areas on the LSE campus.
In addition the project provides new return on investment opportunities that can be exploited for private and corporate users hosting conferencing, presentations and events at LSE facilities.
Our solution
This phased upgrade included state-of-the-art projection and control systems that would replace the legacy analogue solutions installed several years before in the various lecture theatres.
An overarching challenge that related to each element of this project was the strict time-frames that were applied to the installation. Each phase was completed during out-of-hours, weekends and out-of-term periods due to the tight installation programme and to avoid disrupting the university’s learning schedules.
The key AV technologies that feature within each teaching space covered by the project’s scheme at the LSE include the following:
Sheikh Zayed Theatre, New Academic Building
- Display equipment including Dell 20” wide-screen touchscreen LED backlit monitor for lectern, 24” full HD displays for Control Room, Echo lecture capture unit and Christie projection s...
