Introduction

Opening in 2006, the Fashion Retail Academy was the UK’s first National Skills Academy. Funded by a public-private partnership, the Academy’s mission is to inspire and develop young talent for a career in the fashion retail industry, training people for the modern workplace and equipping them with experience and opportunities for careers in this challenging and very exciting sector.

The project brief:

When the Fashion Retail Academy made the decision to upgrade and enhance its AV systems at its vast building on London’s fashion-conscious Oxford Street, proAV was commissioned to design and install a scheme that would incorporate the industry’s most exciting technologies and groundbreaking products and give the Academy’s students a more interactive and insightful learning experience.

proAV’s solution features world class projection, display, digital signage and control systems that have been ingeniously designed to accommodate a number of legacy devices, whilst integrating the current and future audio visual requirements of the Academy’s key spaces, namely the lecture theatre and reception areas.

The emphasis throughout the project remained firmly on High Definition visual impact with 1080p projection, multiple displays and full HD lecture capture functionality. A professional sound solution includes microphones and associated portable equipment and an industry-leading digital signal processing system. From the reception area, an ingenious digital signage system informs, displays and streams an array of multimedia contact to students and staff and presents a powerful and very memorable profile to visitors to the building. As part of the project stage lighting from leading brands was contracted in to integrate with central control systems, offering spot lighting on the lectern and ability for different coloured scenes and splash colours across the stage.

Further areas in the building have also benefitted from this remarkable AV solution; the Room 101 overflow space allows a video & audio feed from the lecture Theatre to be displayed for oversubscribed events. A screen in the canteen will allow, when required, selected camera imagery, Sky TV or digital signage. A customised single-width lectern houses a number of inputs, a 7” touchpanel, laptop facilities and iPad connectivity. The professional mixing desk accommodates a mixer, 10” master control touchpanel and monitor bank for PTZ cameras, while the cabinet houses microphone receivers and DSP

A pioneering educational environment and all the technological resources to deliver a dynamic teaching experience to its students.

The industry’s leading AV systems were incorporated into the Fashion Retail Academy at London’s Oxford Street and feature the following technologies:

  • DLP 1080p 7,000 ANSI lumens projection system
