Cooper Parry are an accountancy firm with a difference. They look to ‘Disrupt, Lead and Make Life Count’. They have been hailed as the ‘rebels of accountancy’ and tend to fly in the face of convention. This is certainly true of their new workplace in Derby designed by Office Principles with the key aim of revolutionise the way they work for their multi-generational workplace.

proAV have worked with Cooper Parry for a number of years at a variety of their sites but with the Derby location, Sky View, they wanted to remove the more traditional meeting areas and replace them with a free-flowing co-working environment encouraging interdepartmental working while creating the opportunity for clients and visitors to work from the same space.

Project brief

The brief was to create a home from home workplace environment, flexible enough for people to work alone or together in a way that is best for the individual with the technology fitting into the space and enabling flexible working practices. The space also needed to be ‘lifted and shifted’ with the day to day co-working zones turning into various event spaces as needed for talks, seminars, conferences and networking evenings.

Solution

At Sky View proAV enabled an AV system which included an open plan space with ‘speakers’ corner’, coffee bar with room booking solution, summit and meeting rooms, library, lounge, tree house, tablet wall and mood wall.

proAV utilised a range of key products that would work together effectively for a simple, flexible approach to Cooper Parry’s working environment needs. Where required in meeting rooms and the Co Lab spaces AMX video conferencing cameras were mounted to displays to allow users to host VC calls and also present wirelessly from their device to a Barco WePresent presentation system. The Tree House room has the addition of a Biamp Devio conferencing hub with two beamforming ceiling microphones and a Huddly Go camera for exceptional web-based conference experiences across a variety of platforms.

A ‘Tablet Wall’ in the entrance provides an opportunity for digital signage communications to staff or clients and brand messaging to be promoted via Brightsign media players which is also linked to further screens throughout the office.

Presentation solutions in the “Speakers Corner” space consist of a Panasonic projector and ceiling mounted Screen International electric screen which can be brought into use as required for Town Hall/All Hands events.

Flush mounted Australian Monitor speakers provide audio throughout the space for presentation audio and voice re-inforcement from handheld and lapel Audio-Technica wireless microphone systems. In addition, a Catchbox throwable microphone was specified for audience participation and to add the fun-factor to these sessions. Audio-Technica antenna distribution paddles were also discreetly mounted within the ceiling to provide coverage from the microphones throughout the space.

Room booking was also made simple using a single Apple ipad, located in the coffee bar reception, running a power app so that within two or three clicks both clients and staff can locate a free room and book it.

Behind the scenes control is managed by a Crestron CP3 processor alongside audio management through a QSC DSP and Apart amplifier.

‘We’ve worked really hard not only on how we’ve designed the space but also to make sure we’re thinking about how we want to use the technology to work with each other in a better way, and that might be things like video calling each other across different offices, using Microsoft Teams to encourage us to collaborate with each other and to share information. We have fantastic audio visual equipment now in all of our meeting rooms, we have private spaces for video calling and we’ve really simplified it to make it easy to use all the technology that’s embedded in the way we work'.
