University of Worcester (Riverside Campus)

Worcester, UK

The University of Worcester is the only Higher Education institution in Herefordshire and Worcestershire and has a student population of some 10,000 students and, with more than 700 staff members, it is a major employer in the area. Divided into six academic institutes, the University is in the midst of a £100m investment programme to provide new, improved and refurbished facilities. This includes Britain’s first university and public library, which will provide an internationally acclaimed resource for students, staff and the wider community when it opens in 2012.

The new Riverside building is set between the St John’s and City campuses and serves as a specialised space for the University’s work in its Sport, Performance and Dance programmes. The site also houses The Garage, which contains purpose built art studios and is designed to accommodate the wide ranging practices explored on these arts courses.

The result is an innovative, contemporary styled AV solution that answers the call of a new generation of university students who demand increasingly sophisticated learning tools and technologies.

A dynamic multimedia presentation and learning environment

proAV was asked to design and deliver an innovative AV solution to enhance the University’s Sport, Performance and Dance faculty at Riverside and The Garage. All main areas of the building were equipped with cutting edge audio visual technologies and are highlighted in the technical breakdown below.

The new AV facilities include groundbreaking display and projection systems that have created a dynamic multimedia presentation and learning environment with High Definition (HD) LED and LCD screens installed throughout the building alongside a stunning mobile work wall solution in the main lecture theatre.

This presentation solution is supported by a range of audio and visual input sources, including architectural speaker systems, radio mic systems, DVD/VHS, XGA splitters and visualisers, iPod dock and hard of hearing system. Together with DSP switching/routing, all are controlled by an intuitive room control system with touchpanel technology.

The result is an innovative, contemporary styled AV solution that answers the call of a new generation of university students who demand increasingly sophisticated learning tools and technologies.

The project to equip the University of Worcester with the industry’s leading AV systems was completed on time, within budget and according to the clients exacting specification for a future-proofed teaching environment.
