The Corby Cube

The Corby Cube is the home of Corby Borough Council, located in the centre of the Northampshire industrial town and links the council administration, including The One Stop Shop, council chamber and registrar, with a range of commercial facilities and cultural activities, including The Core theatre and a library.

Opening to the public in late 2010, the Corby Cube is a £30 million civic hub, designed by renowned architects Hawkins Brown Architecture and which forms part of a major regeneration project for the area. The competition-winning scheme was funded by Corby Borough Council, East Midllands Development Agency, the Department of Communities and Local Government, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the Arts Council and Northamptonshire County Council 

The iconic building achieved international acclaim by being runner-up to the Beijing Olympic Swimming Pool in the prestigious LEAF Awards for the Best Public Building Design of the Year. The Cube’s theatre is also the only one in the UK to gain a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.

World class AV technologies that compliment iconic architecture

proAV was appointed to deliver a distinctive solution comprising world class audio visual technologies and stylish equipment that compliment the iconic architecture and interior design scheme of The Corby Cube and to address the functional demands of a central council administration.

This integrated suite of sophisticated AV equipment includes conferencing, HD display, multimedia presentation, delegate and induction loop audio and intuitive control systems. All were installed throughout the council chamber and meeting rooms to offer discreet, but effective video and audio support to the council’s sessions, which are attended by the public as well as the private meetings that are held by council staff.

The contemporary layout and interior styling presented interesting challenges for proAV’s design team; high ceilings, hardwood panel features and unusual natural and overhead lighting scheme required a considered approach that would satisfy both acoustic and spatial features.

The result is an outstanding range of world class technologies and equipment that are providing Corby Borough Council and its public with a more professional, interactive meeting experience for all who visit and use the chamber and meeting facilities.

Two specialist areas within The Corby Cube were equipped with the following professional AV technologies:

Council Chamber

• Full HD 16:10 10,000 Lumen video/data projector with long throw zoom lens, wall mounted
• Tab tensioned 4m front projection electric screen, 16:10 ratio. RAL powder coated to blend in with the hardwood panel wall.
• Video equipment, including RGBHV and audio matrix switch, BluRay DVD player and HDMI/DVI extender
• Audio equipment, including digital audio processor, multi channel amplifier, front of house speakers, active sub-woofer, voice reinforcement and public gallery loudspeakers, wall mounted cabinet speakers, lectern mic, tie clip and hand held radio mic systems and UHF aerial distribution splitter/amplifier
• Low spill phased array Induction loop systems for main chamber and public gallery
• Delegate microphone system
• Full AV system and blinds control via 5.7” wireless touchpanel, 
• Indoor remote IP camera
