Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council has its headquarters in Oldbury in the West Midlands with council departments based in Smethwick, Cradley Heath and West Bromwich. The Borough Council was formed in 1974 following a merger with Warley and West Bromwich county boroughs. Sandwell is a unitary authority, divided into 24 wards and represented by 72 ward councillors.
proAV was commissioned by Sandwell to deliver extensive professional audio visual and Beyerdynamic digital wireless conference systems for the council suiThe system had to be flexible, intuitive and high quality to cater for the regular council meetings and conferences and incorporate a delegate voting capability for high level council assemblies. The industry's most advanced audio visual equipment that incorporated the latest cutting-edge technology was installed throughout the key areas of Sandwell’s council offices, including the council chamber, committee rooms and annexes.
A key feature of this project is the state-of-the-art digital wireless conference system) which was deployed throughout the large scale council chamber. This 83 person digital wireless conference system is currently the largest system within a UK council chamber.
proAV’s design, technical and project management teams successfully created and delivered an integrated solution on time, within budget and according to the precise specification.
Technical Details
Several key areas at the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council offices were equipped with professional audio visual systems, these include:
Council Chamber
Digital wireless conference system comprising:
- Beyerdynamic digital wireless conference system with PTZ and dome cameras
- 83 person digital wireless conference system with digital central control unit, chairman and delegate microphone units with integrated speakers, control PC and controller and voting system software
- 16 channel video matrix and keyboard
- 17” resistive USB LCD touch screen
Additional AV equipment:
- 2 x 2440 x 1830mm fixed frame wall mounted projection screens
- 2 x LCD XGA ceiling mounted projectors, 4:3 aspect ratio and 5,000 ANSI lumens with long through zoom lens
- 4 x 15” LCD monitors including interactive LCD display with stylus and software, located on dais for repeater screen function
- Visualiser
- 8x8 VGA and stereo audio matrix switcher
- Audio system including amplifier and 6 x 2 way wall mounted loudspeakers
- Input sources including laptop inputs, DVD player and video inputs around the chamber
- Control system including 5.7” wireless touch panel and high powered RF gateway
Committee Rooms 1 and 2
Two committee rooms were each equipped with the following:
- 1900 x 1425mm ceiling mounted electric projection screens with wireless ‘trigger’ controls
- LCD XGA ceiling mounted projectors, 4:3 aspect ratio and 2,600 ANSI lumens
- 2 way active stereo speaker systems
Annexes 1 and 2
Two annexe rooms with flexible AV facilities that can be combined into one larger conference facility when partition is removed were each equipped with the following:
- 1900 x 1425mm ceiling mounted electric projection screens with wireless ‘trigger’ controls
- LCD XGA ceiling mounted projectors, 4:3 aspect ratio and 2,600 ANSI lumens
- Input sources including laptop and DVD players
- Ceiling recess speakers with power amplifiers
- Switching and distribution via integration scaler 4 x PC, 6 x video/S-video and 16 button control panel (within lectern)
Annexe 2 has the following additional equipment:
- Bespoke lectern with upstand for SMART Sympodium 15" interactive LCD screen and lockable equipment cabinet
Annexe 3 (Overflow for Council Chamber)
- 52” LCD display screen mounted on articulated wall mount bracket with local laptop connectivity
- This screen can be selected as a repeater screen for the council chamber overflow as required
