International Maritime Organization (IMO)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an agency of the United Nations with 168 member states and is based in the United Kingdom with around 300 international staff. Its task is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for international shipping and its remit includes safety and security, environmental issues, legal matters, technical cooperation and the efficiency of shipping.

The IMO commissioned proAV to deliver extensive professional audio visual and video conferencing systems for an auditorium and range of meeting rooms at its headquarters building on London's South Bank as part of a multi-phase'A key feature of this project is the state-of-the-art Digital Congress Network (DCN) conferencing system which was upgraded and redeployed throughout this large scale auditorium.'Richard Brookes, proAV building refurbishment project.

The industry's most advanced audio visual equipment that incorporated the latest cutting-edge technology was installed throughout the key areas of the IMO's newly-refurbished headquarters, including a 600 seat auditorium with control booth, dining room and meeting rooms.

A key feature of this project is the state-of-the-art Digital Congress Network (DCN) conferencing system which was upgraded and redeployed throughout this large scale auditorium.

The DCN system incorporated professional sound reinforcement, video conferencing, transcription audio recording and cable TV systems. In addition, delegates paging and electronic signage systems and TV cameras under automatic and manual controls with strategically-positioned repeater screens were installed in key locations.

This outstanding scheme was delivered on time, within budget and remained true to the agreed specification.

Technical Details

 

A number of specialist areas within the IMO headquarters building were equipped with professional AV technologies, including:

Auditorium and Control Booth

  • Professional AV presentation system comprising 2 x HD 3 chip DLP projectors and 2 x DNP rear projection screens (3900 x 2200)
  • Phillips/Bosch Digital Congress Network (DCN) incorporating chairman and delegate units, interpreter booth and audio, visual and multipurpose interface units
  • Automated Shotoku PTZ camera system linked to the DCN
  • TV camera system featuring Sony and Panasonic video cameras
  • HD video conference codec with multi-site facility and PC connectivity
  • Precis writer system
  • Glensound induction systems, integrated within the concrete floor
  • Sound system comprising full range front of house speakers and ceiling mounted full range cabinet speakers; PA via ceiling mounted loudspeakers; handheld and lavalier UHF wireless microphone systems with antennae distribution systems
  • Repeater/Press screens, including 6 x 50" NEC plasma displays
  • 9 x interpretation booths, each providing display screens linked to the TV camera system and full facilities
  • 2 x large LED delegate display panels with feed to further LED panels in Meeting Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - for the display of inbound delegate messages within meetings
  • 6 x 50" plasma displays and integrated LCD information kiosks, delivering interactive digital signage content
  • Central equipment including multi-format generator, Avid character generator and still store, SDI matrix switchers and Quartz matrix switchers with integrated desk control panels, video waveform generators, aspect ratio converters, Pro digital recorders, broadcast preview monitors, PTZ control units and linked interactive A3 tablet camera control
  • Intelligent switching via central Crestron control
  • Custom racks and control desks

Dining room

  • 42" plasma display with speakers DVD, PC interface and TV receiver unit

Meeting rooms 1 and 2

These rooms can be used either in isolation or as a linked space with the Auditorium.

  • HD 3 chip DLP projectors with recessed ceiling mounted electric screens and 50" NEC plasma displays
  • Phillips/Bosch Digital Congress Network (DCN) incorporating chairman and delegate units, interpreter booth and audio, visual and multipurpose interface units
  • Sound reinforcement systems featuring automatic sound mixers, handheld and lavalier UHF radio microphones with remote antenna distribution, 36 x loudspeakers
  • Interpretation booths, each providing display screens linked to the TV camera system, and full facilities
  • Large LED delegate display panels for the display of inbound delegate messages within meetings
  • Low spill induction loop systems
  • Central equipment comprising DTT receivers, DVD player/recorder, RGBHV matrix switcher, high resolution central PCs, TV receiver

Meeting rooms 3, 4 and 5

  • HD 3 chip DLP projectors with recessed ceiling mounted electric screens and 50" NEC plasma displays
  • Phillips/Bosch Digital Congress Network (DCN) incorporating chairman and delegate units, interpreter booth and audio, visual and multipurpose interface units
  • Sound reinforcement systems featuring automatic sound mixers, handheld and lavalier UHF radio microphones with remote antenna distribution, 36 x loudspeakers
  • Interpretation booths, each providing display screens linked to the TV camera system and full facilities

  • 50" NEC plasma display with DVD, VCR, PC connection, TV receiver unit and speakers on Unicol Rollabout trolley system

Secretarial VC Suite
