The Edinburgh International Conference Centre is a world class conference venue, hosting high profile, defining events and bringing tens of thousands of delegates and visitors to Edinburgh every year. Since the centre opened in 1995, it has generated over £200m income for the city and surrounding businesses.

proAV was commissioned to deliver an extensive digital signage and multimedia distribution solution for new facilities at the EICC. An IP networked system was required and it had to be capable of delivering instant, high quality video and audio communications to the centre's visitors.

The scheme also required a a dynamic suite of display hardware and a sophisticated management interface to control and distribute different content to multiple locations simultaneously.

proAV's design, technical and project management teams worked closely with the manufacturer of the industry's leading multimedia distribution architecture to deliver an IP network system that fulfilled the client's complex information distribution requirements.

Specific presentation areas within the building can now be isolated with multiple images and information while content is delivered to selected locations within each area. The system is highly flexible, intuitive and can be configured, managed and controlled centrally or from any point on the network.

This integrated multimedia distribution solution was successfully delivered on time, within budget and according to specification.

The EICC digital signage and media distribution system incorporates a number of key components including:

• 43 Samsung LCD screens, ranging from 19" to 40" widescreen and XGA TFT displays installed onto walls and ceilings in key circulation and presentation areas
• MediaStar Evolution system incorporating powered rack from housing 8 MPEG encoders, MediaStar Evonet IPTV decoder and multimedia player with IP browser and IR remote control interfaces
• Evolution Playlist Scheduling software enables creation and editing of media playlist to upload through Evonet units
