The only university at the heart of the largest non-industrial conurbation in Europe, Bournemouth is in the midst of transformational change which will conclude in 2012 in line with the objectives of a far-reaching corporate plan.

proAV was asked to deliver an extensive suite of high quality audio visual solutions for new facilities at the university as part of a substantial programme of investment for its teachers, students and the wider community. Through these specialist AV facilities, the new solutions also meet local industry requirements for niche technical services, providing varied choices for businesses seeking professional conferencing and venue hire facilities.

proAV's brief was to deliver professional, integrated AV solutions within three specialist lecture theatres (Lees, Wollstonecraft and Allsebrook), offices, reception area, cafe, training, conference and boardroom areas at the university.

Key technologies include video and audio conferencing, presentation and display and a TV distribution system.

The project was designed and installed on time, within budget and according to specification thanks to proAV's specialist project management and world class technical resources.

The specialist lecture theatres Lees, Wollstonecraft and Allsebrook contained:

Display Equipment

  • Triple front projection on fixed frame screens
  • Multiple preview monitors on TeamMate teaching desks
  • Sympodium tablets for interactive annotation
  • High resolution visualiser for displaying a wide range of media

Control

  • Full system control available on AMX touch panel, mounted on ergonomic arm to facilitate wheelchair access
  • Intuitive graphical user interface design to aid the first-time user

Audio

  • 7.1 surround sound audio
  • Voice reinforcement through evenly distributed multi-ceiling speaker arrangements
  • Selection of desk-mounted and hand-held microphones to offer flexibility for any event

Connectivity

  • 2no. fully populated floor boxes at the front of house to offer flexibility in desk placement
  • 6no. floor boxes for participating audience members to connect their laptops seamlessly into the system

Video Conferencing

  • 3no. high definition pan/tilt/zoom cameras
  • Full communication between theatres for image, sound and content sharing over IP
  • Automated Vaddio tracking system for freedom of movement for the lecturer without the need for manual control of the cameras

IP Recording

 

  • Codian IP VCR provides simple intuitive recording and streaming of lectures with no need for manual control or intervention.
